Central Heads Up - 08 April

Rotaractors and Friends of Rotary, it is with great pleasure that we once again share the experiences we have had in Rotaract over the past couple of days. It goes without saying that the meetings over the past few weeks had been filled with zeal and zest due to the elections for the new Rotaract Board to run in the year 2015 – 2016.

Without wasting space and time, the new Rotaract Harare Central Board for the year 2015-2016 is as follows:
  1. President: Penelope (Money Penny) Mandeya
  2. Vice President: Michael (The Other Guy) Chiwere
  3. Secretary: Sithulisiwe (MaNcube) Ncube
  4. Treasurer: Derrick (Daddy Dee) Chiutsi
  5. Public Relations: Alice (Dimples) Imbayago

Please note, these guys will take office from the 1st of July 2015 and their term ends on the 30th of June 2016. Preparations for induction of the new president are already underway and the date has been provisionally set to the 27th of June this year. Elections were conducted in a free, fair and peaceful manner. We would like to thank all members who came through and all our friends and guests who witnessed the elections.

It is also with great joy that we congratulate the members who were elected for office. Through your good work and commitment to the club and its objectives, we have found it befitting for you to lead us in the upcoming Rotary year and to take our club to a new level. Congratulations President Elect, Penelope Mandeya! Our club would also like to congratulate Joyline Zengeni who was also elected President for Rotaract Harare West. We look forward to a great year with two lady presidents of two great clubs.

On election note, we also would like to remind all Rotaractors that they need to nominate the District Rotaract Representative from our rich pool of past presidents and current presidents. For Harare Central, please send your nominations to the President, Lisani Thaka on president[at]rotaracthararecentral.org. Due date for nominations is 10 April. Please note that you are free to nominate any past/current president from any Rotaract Club in Zimbabwe.

Our next meeting in next Friday, the 17th of April, at the usual venue, The Rotary Centre / Seniour Citizens Club, No. 60 Colquhoun Street – Corner Fife Avenue, Harare.

Lets talk a bit about time, because there seems to be some confusion with regard to what time we are supposed to meet. Here is the thing about time: Our meeting starts at 17:30 and is supposed to be an hour long, meaning it should end at 18:30. However, since we are young and there is a lot going on in our lives that we would like to share, our meetings tend to get longer and usually stretch to about one and a half hours. That said, the meeting venue is open for us at 17:00 (5pm) so that we may come in early and socialize before the meeting starts. So we are actually encouraged to come in early (at 5pm) so that we may discuss business (committee stuff) and get to know each other (friend stuff). Therefore fellow Rotaractors, friends of Rotary and guests, lets meet from 5pm so that we may have time for ourselves and do business later from 5:30pm.

Meanwhile this Saturday, the 11th of April, our friend club, Rotaract Club of Highlands will be hosting a Fun Day at Mt Pleasant Sports Club from 10:00am till late. They are inviting all of us to come join in the fun with:

5 Aside Soccer
Boat Races (Not on water!!)
Beer Pong
Scavenger Hunt
Evening Concert/Karaoke
The entrance fee will be just $1.00 per person and $3.00 for each club to participate in the competitions. Food and drinks will be available. A trophy, various prizes and bragging rights will be awarded to the best Rotaract clubs and as written on the event promo card, “May the odds be in your favor!”. Just a quick note to the new members of Harare Central, our club has always been known to be the best club in the district, lets go out in our numbers and protect our legacy – Cen’ What?……..

Club T-shirts are still available, please get in touch with Alice or the President to order yours so that you may truly know what it feels like to be a Centralite, especially this Saturday at the Highlands Fun Day. Last but not least, thank you to all those who are paying their subscriptions to support our club activities. Please if you have not paid you subs, get in touch with the treasurer, Penelope and settle your bill before the Rotary year ends.

Otherwise, lets meet this Saturday in Mt Pleasant and remember to be on time for our club meeting next Friday.
